Congratulations to the Buccaneers who posted an impressive 118 run victory against Plymouth Peverell Last evening (15th May 2012).
After winning the toss skipper Max Timmins elected to field against a young Plymouth side. Things got off to an excellent start with Aidan Osborne (1-13) taking a wicket on only the 2nd ball of the match caught Adam Talbott in the covers. Plymouth were then progressing steadily but wickets were being taken at a regular pace which meant that they never really got any momentum into their play. The final 8 overs saw Max Timmins (1-9) and Adam Talbott (4-7) tightening the attack and pegging Plymouth back to 186 off their alloted overs.
In reply Buckland got off to a steady start with the bat with the opening pairing of Will Ashurst and Aidan Osborne taking the score onto 218, but the innings was properly accelerated when Pete Bull (15) and Dylan wood (7) put on a partnership of over 40 to take the game away from Plymouth. Final pairing of Harry Richardson and Adam Talbott saw out the game taking no risks and taking the score above 300 for the first time in the clubs history, eventually finishing on 304.
The game will be remembered because of the way the young Plymouth kept battling right to the end, the spirt throughout was as cricket is intended and the sincereity of Buckland in Victory was entirely honourable.
Well done both teams.

Training is ON tonight - but as last week the entrance to the field is still soft so you will not be allowed to take your cars onto the field. Thanks for your co-operation.

Last evening 22nd January 2012, was the eagerly anticipated Annual General Meeting of Buckland Monachorum Cricket Club.
The club returned a financial suplus on the season of £5,087.70 thanks in the main to the excellent work of Crapfest, Youth Development and Fundraising efforts from within the club. The Chairman reflected on what has been a progressive season off the field and recognised that the future of the club was dependent upon continued success with the Youth and fund-raising.
The club has duly adopted some constitutal changes to reflect the need to focus our efforts on both Youth and Fundraising and have duly elected Vice Chairman Fundraising (Phil Waterhouse) and Vice Chairman Youth (Johnny Talbot) to drive both of those areas forward with the full backing of the membership.
The membership reflected on the need to improve the way in which the grounds are prepared to take the pressure off those who already actively take part in this area with particular increased efforts needed from the membership around the field so that we can encourage wider use of the field if improvements are made to the facility in the coming year.
On the playing side the membership supported the executives decision to pull out of the P&D league reflecting on how the league had changed in recent years. The membership agreed that it was no longer an enjoyable experience to participate in P&D matches and that continuing to try to raise sides would be counter-productive to our youth development plans.
Kevin Osborne was re-elected as Club Captain with Gary Elkington staying on as Vice. The evening Captain role was awarded to Geoff Pollard but the membership considered the need to "rotate" the captain to give others an opportunity to gain experience. The midweek matches next season will mostly be friendlies with the adult side encouraging greater participation from the up-coming youth particularly those in the 12-15 age group. We also hope that adopting a social aspect to evening cricket we would actively encourage more parents to "give it a go"!
The executive for the coming season is as follows:
A number of fundraising events are planned for this season and some club merchandise will soon to be advertised on the clubs website and at the ground including: poloshirts, hoodies, womens t-shirts, sweatshirts, mugs, car stickers.
It was reported that the executive had recently submitted a £50k funding application and was soon to submit an application for further funding from West Devon Borough Council, which if both are secured, alongside an increased fundraising effort this season will enable us to build the new pavilion and community hub during this year.
